Who it suits
- 14 mm core. A thinner core is livelier, the traditional pick for pop (Onix, Paddletek), though Pickleball Effect's 2026 analysis finds modern 16 mm paddles have lost little of it (Pickleball Effect).
- Heavy, 8.5 oz. Paddles of 8.5 oz and over are rarely a good start for new players and tire the arm faster (Paddletek); the finder hides them for players with arm trouble.
- Widebody (shape estimated from the paddle's width). The most forgiving shape and the best on comfort measures (Pickleball Effect): a good start if you're undecided (Pickleball Effect).
- 5.62 in handle. Room for a two-handed backhand: 5.4 in or longer is what Pickleball Effect recommends (Pickleball Effect, PickleballUS).
- 3.625 in grip. A smaller grip; between sizes, the sources say go smaller and build up with an overgrip (Pickleball Central, Paddletek).
Not published by Gearbox: swingweight, twistweight. The finder never hides a paddle for a missing spec; it ranks it lower.
