Best pickleball paddles for beginners
For a first paddle, the sources point to a 16 mm core, a midweight paddle (between about 7.3 and 8.5 oz), a widebody or hybrid shape, and a twistweight that is high for the shape, so off-centre hits stay steady while your contact develops (Paddletek, Onix, Pickleball Effect, Pickleball.com). A swingweight in the low-to-medium band for the shape is easier to control (Pickleball.com, Pickleball Science).
Heavy paddles, 8.5 oz and over, are rarely a good start (Paddletek).

How we ranked this
For a new player the finder scores a 16 mm core, a widebody (a hybrid a little less), a high twistweight for the shape and a low-to-medium swingweight for the shape. Nothing is hidden: a beginner can still choose any paddle in the finder.
Every figure is the brand's own published spec; “not published” means the brand doesn't give it, and we never fill it in. Swingweight and twistweight bands are judged against the paddle's shape, using Pickleball.com's bands (Pickleball.com). The full scoring is on How we rank.
